Weapons stolen from Chesapeake police officer’s car

On Tuesday night, someone broke into a vehicle parked in front of the home of a Chesapeake police officer and stole a semiautomatic rifle, a shotgun and ammunition from the trunk. The officer lives off of South Lynnhaven Road in Virginia Beach.

According to the police report, the stolen items: the rifle, 60 rounds of ammunition, a rifle case, a Remington shotgun with five shells, and a nylon case are worth a total of $2,170.

All of the equipment stolen was issued to the officer by the Chesapeake Police Department. Officer Dorienne Boykin, a CPD spokeswoman said the officer was authorized to bring the weapons home, and did not violate department policy by leaving them in the trunk of his personal vehicle.

However, Bokins did say: “This may cause us to review the practice of how we safeguard weapons in vehicles.”

Virginia Beach detectives are investigating the incident.
