Q&A: Detroit Lions wide receiver Rashied Davis willing to play other positions

Rashied Davis

ALLEN PARK — A question-and-answer session with Detroit Lions wide receiver Rashied Davis.

What are you bringing to the Lions? You know, I work harder than Nate (Burleson). Nate, he comes out and slacks off — no, I’m just messing with him. I just come with a hard-nosed work ethic. I work hard. Do my job to the best of my ability. Provide some depth — a receiver who can come in and produce on the offensive side of things as well as special teams. more options on game day than they may have had in the past, so they can dress more receivers, maybe give other guys rest and keep guys fresher. Is there something specific you try to provide or is it more about whatever they ask?A That’s pretty much it. Specifically, I know my job is to come here and be a dog on special teams, like all the rest of those guys. just to add another element to the special teams unit, specifically.

But my goal has always been to be the best football player I can be, all around. so I’ll do whatever it takes to win the game no matter what they ask me: to run down on kicks, on the return, be the returner, play on offense. Even corner, in emergency situations. I’ll do it, it doesn’t matter. How does it feel, coming from Chicago to Detroit? with Detroit’s struggles over the last several years, it’s not on the level of the Bears’ rivalry with Green Bay, but…Oh, we’re going to change all that! Is it weird to see fans cheer for you who would have been booing you last season? It’s not difficult to get used to. It’s probably more difficult to stop (referring to) Chicago when I do interviews — the fans of Chicago. That’s probably tougher, adjusting my mindset to that — putting Detroit in there instead of the city of Chicago. Have you come around already, or is it still a struggle?I’m at that point. I may make a mistake here and there, but I was in Chicago for six years. But I love it here. I love the fans. the team has been great. That’s made the transition easy for me; the (Lions) players have made the transition easy for me. That’s part of the reason that I bought the T-shirts for the guys. Oh, you bought those? Yeah, the “Impose our Will” T-shirts. What’s your favorite food?I love Mexican food. Enchiladas are my favorite. with spicy red sauce. Q What’s your favorite car? Oh, a Lamborghini. I’m going to get one some day. Which one? Well, I’d like a Murcielago, but I think I can only afford a Gallardo. I drove a Honda for a while. I’ve got a family. I drive a Lexus LX. what I really want, though, is a (BMW) M5. Those have it all. Or a M3 — I was looking at a classic M3. Do you have a favorite movie?Man on fire. Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning. That’s my favorite movie. So is Denzel Washington your favorite actor?Probably. Yeah, I would say that. I love almost every movie I’ve seen with him in it. What are your hobbies? In Chicago, I used to go shoot sporting clays. That’s one of my favorite things to do. Or go to the shooting range. But now, it’s basically hang out with my kids. Take my daughter to the library, watch her enjoy herself. She’s pretty funny. How old is she? She’s three. What’s her name?Alanna The other child is…?Eli. He’s 10 months. Brand new. What other sports do you like?Basketball, and I’m a Laker fan. I’m from L.A. I grew up in L.A. So that’s what you’d play if you could play any other sport?Badminton. (laughs) no, I’m joking. If I could, I’d play basketball. So Kobe’s your favorite player?Right now, yeah. of all time? Magic Johnson. Who was your favorite football player when you were growing up?Barry Sanders, by far, bar none. Nobody else. Even thought you grew up in California?I was a Detroit Lions fan. Growing up in L.A., I was the only one. probably still the only one. and I couldn’t be a Detroit Lions fan playing in Chicago, but now I can say I am a Detroit Lions fan. I was a Raiders fan when I first started out, because they were in L.A. when I was a kid. I’m 32; I’m not a spry chicken. Is that what they say? And you get to play them later this season.Yeah, I get to play them. But, no, I became a Detroit Lions fan because I was always a Barry fan, and I didn’t want to be a frontrunner, like my little brother, who was a 49ers fan. My other brother is a Green Bay Packers fan.  Have you gotten a chance to meet (Sanders) yet?No, I was hoping to get a chance to meet him. That was supposed to be one of my perks! I had a chance to meet him a long time ago, somewhere in San Jose, and I chickened out. All my friends went and said hello, and I chickened out.  Well, maybe he’ll be around this year, and you’ll get a chance to meet him.Hopefully, hopefully.
