It took more than three years, but police in Ohio have charged a Columbus man with the Dec. 2006 murder of 14-year-old Danny Crawford.
Michael S. Gross Jr., 22, was in jail on other charges when detectives charged him with murder and tampering with evidence.
On the night of Dec. 6, 2006, Crawford, a student at Westmoor Middle School, was with two friends throwing eggs at passing cars, when one of the teenagers landed an egg on the SUV in which Gross was traveling.
The driver began chasing the miscreants, until Gross allegedly exited the vehicle and started shooting, killing Crawford.
Responding officers found the SUV a few blocks from murder scene, and though apprehending the driver, could not initially find enough evidence to charge the actual shooter.
The diligent efforts of officer Timothy Huston with the Strategic Response Bureau, and homicide detective Kathie Justice eventually garnered enough witness testimony to charge Gross with the murder.
