On Friday, Suffolk police discovered a marijuana growing operation in a private residence which operates a day care.

Officers were dispatched to the home on Snead Drive, on a domestic disturbance call. In an upstairs bedroom, they found $1,000 worth of growing equipment and $400 worth of marijuana.

According to Suffolk police public information officer, Debbie George, the homeowners' two children, ages 9 months old and 3 years old, were home at the time. One of the residents was taken into custody.

The day care which is located in a development near Nansemond River Golf Course, is not licensed and Child Protective Services have begun their own investigation into the case.
