Police searching for man who crashed into day care center

Police are searching for Javon L. Curtis, 21, who on Saturday, crashed his vehicle into the Blessings for You Child Care and Learning Center, after a high-speed chase through the streets of Richmond.

Curtis crashed through a fence into the playground, destroying picnic tables and a porch. He also knocked out beams supporting a balcony and fire escape.

Curtis̢۪ 4-month-old daughter was in the car at the time, and was not in a child safety seat. She was not injured and was given to her mother.

The chase began shortly after 10:00 p.m. when state trooper M.T. Norman attempted to stop Curtis for driving without his headlights.

After the crash, Curtis was taken to VCU Medical Center and treated for minor injuries. According to Virginia State Police, he walked out of the hospital on Sunday morning.

Curtis has been charged with felony eluding police, felony child neglect, felony destruction of property, misdemeanor possession of a concealed weapon, driving on a suspended license and DUI.

In May, Curtis pleaded guilty to driving on a suspended license and received a suspended jail sentence and had his license suspended for another 90 days.
