Anniversary of Captain Earl Compton's murder

On February, 29, 1972, Capt. Earl Compton of the Federal Reserve Police, Bank of Richmond, VA was shot dead by a fellow officer.

Compton, along with other officers were attending a meeting about the agency’s promotion policy in the basement of the bank, when another a sergeant with the agency
burst into the room and started shooting.

Compton was killed and three administrators were wounded in the attack.

The disgruntled sergeant was immediately taken into custody and charged with murder and three counts of malicious wounding.

Capt. Earl Compton, 52, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He left behind a wife and two daughters.

Compton was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was survived by his wife, two daughters, mother, brother, and sister.
