On Wednesday, Newport News Police, the U.S. Marshal Capital Area Task Force and Hampton Police arrested Anthony Dwight Singleton, who was wanted for two brutal assaults.

On Sunday, Singleton allegedly raped and beat a 30-year-old Newport News woman. He has been charged with attempted murder, sexual assault, burglary, abduction, two counts of rape and three counts of forcible sodomy in that case.

In early May, Singleton is also alleged to have kidnapped, robbed and brutally beaten a 63-year-old Newport News man.

According to police, Singleton abducted the man in front of his home, forced him into his own car and drove him to the Hampton Manor Motel. Once at the hotel, the suspect tied the man to a chair and stole his credit cards, using them to make several illegal purchases.
