On Friday night, Bedford County sheriff's deputies conducting a sobriety checkpoint, heard loud knocking sounds coming from a womanâs trunk. When they opened it, the deputies found a goat, hogtied and struggling for his life.
The driver, Fiona Ann Enderby, 32, told deputies that she had purchased the goat for the four Kenyan immigrants in her car.
The goat was in obvious distress and given the hot temperature, surely would have expired soon, had the deputies not intervened.
According to Maj. Ricky Gardner of the Bedford sheriff's office, the temperature in the trunk registered at 94 degrees, ten minutes after it was opened.
The woman, who lives in Washington D.C., was charged with animal cruelty.
The goat is now at the Bedford County animal shelter and doing well.
Enderbyâs first court appearance is set for next month.
