On Friday, detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office arrested Father Edgar Sepulveda, 47, a priest with the Raleigh Diocese of North Carolina. He was charged with one count of second-degree sexual offense, and sexual battery. The alleged victim is a young boy.

According to Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram, the abuse took place in May 2009, when the priest was visiting parish members.

Sepulveda is the Pastor of Maria Reina Parish in Mt. Olive, Santa Teresa Mission in Beulaville, and Santa Clara Mission in Magnolia.

Raleigh Diocese officials say the boy’s family reported the alleged molestation on Sept. 9, 2009, at which time the police were contacted. The Diocese met with the boy and his parents the day after learning of the allegations, and offered counseling.

Sepulveda has denied the molestation took place. He was released on $100,000 bond.
