Police find abducted 11-year-old diabetic in South Carolina

On Wednesday, police in Manning, South Carolina, found Alexis Cartwright and her father who allegedly abducted her from a Virginia children’s hospital this past weekend. Alexis, is a diabetic and requires insulin twice a day. She is reported to be in good condition.

Police arrested her father, Lemuel Cartwright, 55, who has been charged with abduction and child neglect. His first court appearance came today.

The two were spotted in the parking lot of a CVS Pharmacy.

At the time of her abduction, Alexis had been in Cumberland Children’s Hospital in New Kent County, VA, for two months. Her parents do not have custody of Alexis, and she was under the care of North Carolina Social Services. No information is available as to why her parents lost custody.
