VA State Police issue alert for missing 11-year-old diabetic

On Sunday afternoon, the Virginia State Police issued a missing and endangered child alert for Alexis Cartwright who is believed to have been abducted from Cumberland Children̢۪s Hospital in New Kent County.

Alexis is white, 5'3", 137 pounds with blue eyes and sandy brown hair. She was last seen wearing a blue jacket with the Aeropostale logo across the front and blue jeans.

The 11-year-old who is a ward of North Carolina Social Services, went missing during a visit with her father, Lemuel Cartwright, 55. Police say that Cartwright took the girl and may be headed back to Bath County, NC.

New Kent Sheriff's Lt. Chris Hamlet described Cartwright as 6-foot-7 with brown hair and brown eyes. He may be driving a blue 1993 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck with North Carolina license plate XYZ-8450.

Alexis is insulin dependent and requires medication twice daily. Police believe that she is in danger. She has been missing since 3:00 p.m. Sunday.
