Woman reportedly beheaded in Haiti, violence out of control

LondonĂ¢€™s Sunday Times has reported that a woman was beheaded outside of a marketplace for the meager supplies she was carrying.

A teenage boy was also killed as he drove away from a cemetery, where he had just dropped off bodies of quake victims. He was shot to death by bandits trying to steal his truck. The boy was working for the charity founded by Haitian-born singer Wyclef Jean.

Jean told reporters: "Somebody wanted to carjack him. Two shots."

In a separate incident, the London Telegraph reported that a man was seen removing a corpse from a coffin at a Port-au-Prince cemetery, in order to then steal the coffin.

Since the earthquake, roaming, armed gangs have been seen throughout the Haitian capital and are becoming more dangerous with every passing day.

Evelyne Buino, a Port-au-Prince beautician, said: "Men suddenly appeared with machetes to steal money. This is just the beginning."

Perhaps, most troubling are the reports of orphanages being broken into and looted. In one case, the House of the Children of God has been broken into twice since the earthquake occurred.

Some of the violence can be attributed to the collapse of a prison located in the city, from which about 4,000 inmates are believed to have escaped last Tuesday.

Unfortunately, the violence is preventing aid from reaching those in need, as gangs with rifles and machetes have set up roadblocks and are demanding money from passing trucks, or simply steal all of the supplies being carried.
