On Friday, police in Charlottesville arrested a 14-year-old boy for the shooting of a 13-year-old girl in the cityâs Forest Hills Park. The shooting occurred around 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
The teenager is charged with attempted malicious wounding, malicious wounding, two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school.
According to Charlottesville Police Lt. Gary Pleasants, the shooting happened during a confrontation involving several individuals. The boy was apparently aiming at another teenager, but instead, hit the girl in the leg.
The victim was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where she was treated and released.
Because of his age, police are not releasing the name of the alleged shooter.
