Church reunion to be today

Today is the annual Swinton Church reunion in Swinton, Mo. it starts at 12:30 p.m. with a basket dinner following by an auction. the proceeds will be used for the upkeep of the building. there will be gospel singing led by Terry Sanders, Harold and Toni Wheetly of Bloomfield, Mo. the Rev. Gary Cooper will be preaching. everybody is welcome to attend.

Women in Agriculture meet

The Scott County Women in Agriculture will meet 7 p.m. Thursday at the USDA Center, 6458 State Highway 77, Benton, Mo. All women are invited to attend; they do not have to be involved in farming but should share an interest in gardening, cooking, farming, family activities, helping the community, etc. the group’s new cookbook, “A Taste of the Country,” and RADA cutlery are available for purchase. Trivia night to be this week

The Jackson R-2 Librarians and the Cape Elks are hosting a trivia night at 7 p.m. Friday to benefit the Joplin school libraries. Doors will opens at 6:30 p.m. there will be six to eight players to a team, and it will cost $12.50 per player. Players should bring their own snacks. Drinks will be available for purchase. 2011 Bark in the Park

Kettle beef dinner scheduled

The Wesley United Methodist Church on Highway 177 in Fruitland will be serving kettle beef, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, homemade bread and dessert from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for children 5 to 12 and free for children under 5. Carry outs available. GrandFamily conference set

“Stayin’ Alive” is the theme for the conference for grandparents raising grandchildren and other relatives in Cape Girardeau. the GrandFamily conference will be held at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 804 N. Cape Rock Drive from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 18. the free event includes on-site child care provided by Cape Girardeau County Family and Community Education, lunch and door prizes. the featured speaker will be Richard Simmons, who will get participants moving in a healthier direction and having a bit of fun in the process.
